September News: Exhibition Preparation
In the last few weeks I've really stepped up the preparation for my exhibition, Seascapes, which is now only four weeks away! This is my first solo exhibition and there's a lot to think about.
A friend and colleague recently asked me if I was looking forward to seeing my work together as a collection. I then realised for the first time, that this is what I'm looking forward to the most. Not only sharing my work with others and getting their feedback, but also seeing my artwork together in one place as a (hopefully) cohesive body of work.
You may be aware, but I don't have a studio space at all - that is a dream and an aspiration - so I work in different parts of my home. My 'Study-o' for smaller work and sketches and when it's cold, my dining room table (which was once a potter's table in Tintagel) and my conservatory, which is a very basic place and alternates from freezing to boiling! Each area plays its part, but there is no space to hang paintings, so seeing them up will be a rare treat.
New work
I've been working much more in oils just recently. I'm hopeless at cleaning brushes and the preparation as I'm quite impatient just to paint, but I've fallen in love with this beautiful medium for it's blending qualities, lustrous texture and they way that it changes light and shadow. The painting below, for example, is made up of many different layers of oil paint and each layer contributes to the next. Even subtle changes of light pick up previously unseen hues and shadows. This painting is called 'Red Sky at Night' (60cm x 60cm) and will be on display at my exhibition.
The Poly Members Show 2026, Falmouth
If you are out and about in Falmouth, you might enjoy popping in to see the Poly Members Show 2026, which is up on the first floor. It includes is a huge range of work showcasing sculpture, jewellery, ceramics, photography, textiles, printmaking, drawing and painting.
My little oil painting, 'Cornish Mizzle over Pendennis Castle' is currently being displayed at the Show. You may recognise it from the 'Seascapes' exhibition poster. The Show is running until Saturday 12th September and you can find more on The Poly's website here.
There's plenty more to say, but I'll finish here. I'm taking some paintings to the framer this week, which is always exciting and I have also ordered some greetings cards for the first time.
