MY STORY

I’ve loved drawing and painting for as long as I can remember. As a child, I was endlessly sketching people and horses, and that early fascination with shape, movement and character grew into a lifelong passion for art.

I studied A-level Art at college and was offered a place on the Fine Art foundation course at Falmouth School of Art in the 1990s. At the time, like many young people, I struggled with self confidence and chose a different path, taking an administrative diploma instead. Life then carried me to South Wales where I studied a BA in Geography and History and later an MSc in European Regional Development.

Through all those twists and turns, art has always been with me. I’ve never stopped creating and finding inspiration in the world around me, even though there were long periods when I couldn't do it as much as I would have liked. The sea, in particular, has been a constant thread — from my upbringing in Cornwall to my heritage in Guernsey, I’ve always been drawn to the coastline. Both places are steeped in maritime history and rich natural beauty, and they continue to shape my work today.

This year I fulfilled a long-time personal goal by returning to study and enrolling in a year-long landscape course with the Newlyn School of Art. Being part of such a prestigious community has given me fresh confidence, allowed me to develop new techniques, and grow an even deeper sense of commitment to my artistic journey. Life has also come full circle as I now work at Falmouth University, regularly having meetings in the room where I was interviewed as a student all those years ago!

For me, painting is about more than just capturing a view; it’s about expressing a feeling, a memory, and a sense of place.

Every brushstroke is tied to the landscapes and seascapes that have inspired me for decades. Between Cornwall and Guernsey, I find myself pulled again and again to themes of coastlines, horizons, and the meeting of land, sea and sky.

This is the heritage and passion that you will find woven into the layers of my work.

I hope that you enjoy it and thank you for visiting.
