Red Sky at Night was inspired by a late evening summer walk in Guernsey in high summer. The light was incredible and, even as the dusk fell, bands of translucent colour were picked up across the water, stretching out to the horizon. I've tried to capture that atmosphere in this painting.
Painted with an acrylic base overlaid with multiple layers of oil, I’ve never known a painting change so much in shifting light, revealing hidden layers of indigo, cobalt blue and copper.
I've tried to show how the painting dramatically changes in the light, but it's quite difficult so if you'd like more photos or a video, please let me know as I appreciate that it's quite difficult to capture the subtle colours and texture online.
If you have any questions, please let me know.
